The Nigerian military, reported the neutralization of 148 terrorists and the arrest of 258 suspects in various operations conducted over the past week.
Among those arrested were two ammunition couriers, identified as Danweri and Abubakar Hamza, who were apprehended in Alkaleri Local Government Area of Bauchi State.
Maj. Gen. Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, confirmed the operations in a statement on Saturday.
He revealed that the two couriers were collaborating with terrorists and have since been cooperating with the troops.
Buba further reported that in addition to the 148 terrorists neutralized, 291 kidnapped hostages were rescued.
He also highlighted the arrest of 51 suspected oil thieves, with crude oil worth N798 million seized in the South-South region.
“In the South-South, troops thwarted oil theft valued at N798,146,470.00.
The troops discovered and destroyed 68 crude oil cooking ovens, 13 dugout pits, 41 boats, 45 storage tanks, and 66 illegal refining sites.
Additionally, four speedboats, one pumping machine, 150 drums, one generator, two motorcycles, two mobile phones, one drone, and five vehicles were recovered,” Buba said.
The military also seized 657,470 litres of stolen crude oil, 127,870 litres of illegally refined AGO, and 5,000 litres of DPK.
A significant haul of weaponry was also recovered, including 146 assorted weapons and 2,599 rounds of ammunition.
The weapons recovered included two PKT guns, 72 AK-47 rifles, 33 fabricated rifles, 28 Dane guns, two locally made SMGs, three locally made pistols, two pump-action guns, one RPG bomb, and 39 magazines.
Additionally, other materials recovered included various types of ammunition, radios, motorcycles, vehicles, mobile phones, and N1,838,000 in cash.
The military’s successful operations have significantly impacted terrorist and criminal activities, with many lives saved and illegal activities disrupted across the country.
