Troops of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army, operating from the Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Wukari, have dismantled a suspected gunrunning syndicate in Southern Taraba, arresting two individuals and recovering arms and other items during a tactical operation.
Acting on credible intelligence, the troops raided a settlement in Byepyi Village along Tsukundi Road in Wukari Local Government Area. The operation led to the arrest of two suspects: 55-year-old Buba Idi and 29-year-old Isiyaka Yusufa.
Following the arrest, a thorough interrogation and subsequent follow-up operations led to the recovery of one AK-47 rifle, a loaded AK-47 magazine with sixteen rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, a Tecno mobile phone, and a Bajaj motorcycle.
According to a statement by the 6 Brigade Public Relations Officer, Captain Olubodunde Oni, the suspects are currently in custody and undergoing preliminary investigations. He noted that the probe is yielding valuable intelligence to further expose the network’s operations.
Commending the troops for their swift response and professionalism, the Commander of 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, said the operation reflects the Brigade’s continued efforts to curb the proliferation of illegal arms and enhance security across Taraba State.
He reaffirmed the Brigade’s resolve to deny criminal elements any safe haven within its Area of Responsibility.
Brigadier General Uwa also praised residents of Taraba for their ongoing support and urged them to remain vigilant by providing timely and credible information to security agencies to facilitate effective crime-fighting operations.
