President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is set to depart Abuja on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, for a two-day state visit to the United Kingdom at the invitation of King Charles III and Queen Camilla.

According to a statement issued on Monday by presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga, the British monarch will host the president and the First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, at Windsor Castle from March 18 to March 19.

The visit marks the first by a Nigerian leader to the UK in 37 years and makes Tinubu the first Nigerian president to be hosted by a British monarch at Windsor Castle.

The trip is aimed at strengthening bilateral relations between Nigeria and the United Kingdom, with discussions expected to focus on immigration, trade, investment and cultural cooperation.

During their stay at Windsor Castle, the King will host the Nigerian delegation to a special exhibition of items from the Royal Collection relating to Nigeria. Both leaders are also expected to hold private talks and meet organisations involved in interfaith dialogue, while a State Banquet will be held in honour of the Nigerian delegation.

As part of the visit, President Tinubu will hold a bilateral meeting with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer at 10 Downing Street, which is expected to culminate in the signing of several Memoranda of Understanding and bilateral agreements covering trade, investment, defence cooperation and cultural exchange.

The president will also witness the signing of a £746 million financing agreement involving UK Export Finance (UKEF), the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), and the Federal Ministry of Finance. The deal is aimed at supporting the refurbishment of key port infrastructure, including the Lagos Port Complex (Apapa Quays) and the Tin Can Island Port Complex.

In addition, the president will attend the Nigerian Modernism exhibition showcasing the country’s art and cultural heritage, and participate in a reception with Nigerian and British business leaders, as well as members of the diaspora community.

Members of the delegation include Senate President Godswill Akpabio, National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, and several cabinet ministers, among them Lateef Fagbemi, Wale Edun, Dele Alake, Mohammed Idris, Bianca Ojukwu and Jumoke Oduwole.

Others accompanying the president are Hannatu Musawa, Bosun Tijani, Christopher Musa and Mohammed Mohammed.

President Tinubu is expected to return to Nigeria at the conclusion of the visit.
