The Minister of Women Affairs, Mrs. Uju Kennedy Ohanenye, has called on Nigerians to exercise patience with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as he works to repair the country’s economy and governance.

Speaking during a palliative distribution event in Awka, Anambra State, on Wednesday, Ohanenye acknowledged the challenges facing the nation but reassured citizens that Tinubu is focused on addressing them. The palliatives distributed at the event included 5,000 bags of 10 kg rice, 300 gas cylinders, and 500 bags of 50 kg fertilizers aimed at supporting the less privileged.

“I plead with you to be patient with the president. He is doing everything to change the negative practices that have crippled the nation’s economy,” the minister stated. “Just give the president time; in the next few months, things will begin to improve. He needs time to clean up the mess left by previous administrations. Honestly, things were bad before President Tinubu took office, and he is working hard to bring happiness to Nigerians.”

Ohanenye emphasized the social security initiatives introduced by the Tinubu administration, which aim to uplift the poor and vulnerable in society. She urged citizens to submit their Bank Verification Numbers (BVNs) to facilitate the government’s efforts to provide aid to those in need.

“The BVN helps the government identify those who qualify for federal social security palliatives. The aid is meant for the poor, not the rich, who have cornered these resources over the years,” she added.

Also present at the event, Mrs. Yinka Okpeke, CEO of Smart Gas, explained the ministry’s collaboration with her company to provide gas cylinders as part of their efforts to ease the burden on women who rely on firewood for cooking. “Our focus is to assist women and alleviate the hardship they face,” Okpeke said.

Chief Basil Ejidike, Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Anambra State, praised President Tinubu’s commitment to rebuilding the nation. He urged citizens to support the president’s efforts, acknowledging that Nigeria was in dire straits before Tinubu assumed office.

“Nigeria was in a mess before now, and the president is reengineering the whole process for the good of the citizens,” Ejidike remarked.
