American pop superstar Taylor Swift has shut down rumours suggesting she was envious of her longtime friend Selena Gomez for getting married before her.
Speculation surfaced after Gomez tied the knot with music producer Benny Blanco in a private ceremony in late September, which Swift attended alongside a small circle of close friends.
Reports claimed that during her wedding speech, Swift made a playful remark implying Gomez had “beaten her to the altar.”
However, during her recent appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the “Love Story” singer firmly dismissed the reports, clarifying that her comments at the wedding were entirely light-hearted and focused on their early friendship — not her engagement.
“I made sure not to mention anything about my engagement,” Swift said, adding that she was genuinely overjoyed to celebrate Gomez’s big day.
Reflecting on her speech, she explained that her jokes centered around their teenage fashion choices.
“I did some light teasing about how we dressed in 2008 — the deep V-necks and colourful skinny jeans era,” she said with a laugh. “But mostly, I talked about how happy I am for her and how wonderful it’s been to be part of her journey. I definitely didn’t make it about me.”
Swift also addressed another topic that’s drawn attention from fans — her engagement to NFL star Travis Kelce. She revealed she hadn’t told close friend Ed Sheeran about it directly because of his unconventional communication habits.
“Ed doesn’t use a phone,” she said. “He only responds to emails or FaceTime, so I guess I’ll have to send him a carrier pigeon next time.”
The singer’s remarks appear to have put to rest the swirling social media rumours, reaffirming the close friendship she shares with Gomez — a bond that has lasted for more than 15 years.
