Senator Abubakar Sani Bello, representing Niger North Senatorial District and Chairman of the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs, has sent a delegation to Mokwa to condole with the community following a devastating flood that claimed over 200 lives and displaced thousands.

Led by former Speaker of the Niger State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adamu Usman, and former lawmaker Hon. Mikhail Al-Amin Bmitosahi, the delegation visited the Palace of the Ndalile of Mokwa, where they were received by His Royal Highness Alhaji Shaba Aliyu and the Vice Chairman of Mokwa Local Government Council.

Speaking on behalf of Senator Bello, Rt. Hon. Usman conveyed the Senator’s heartfelt condolences, noting that although currently on pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia, Senator Bello remains deeply pained by the tragedy.

“This is a heartbreaking moment,” Usman said. “The Senator asked us to personally deliver his sympathies and stand with the people of Mokwa in this dark time.”

Hon. Bmitosahi announced the Senator’s donation of ₦50 million to support the victims, stating that arrangements were already in place to facilitate the prompt transfer of the relief funds.

“The Senator’s directive was clear—this support must be swift and meaningful,” Bmitosahi said. “He prays for the repose of the departed and strength for those left behind.”

In his response, the Ndalile of Mokwa, Alhaji Shaba Aliyu, expressed deep appreciation for the Senator’s compassion and support.

“This tragedy is unlike anything we’ve experienced,” the monarch said. “Mokwa has no history of such flooding, and the damage took us by surprise. We are grateful for Senator Bello’s concern and timely assistance.”

The delegation also visited the affected areas to assess the scale of destruction.

Among the delegation were other notable figures including Alhaji Aliyu Takuma (Etsu Yankpa of Takuma), Alhaji Yusuf Suleiman (former Commissioner for Water Resources), Alhaji Aminu Yusuf (former Chairman, Wushishi LGA), Hon. Idris Ndazoje (former Chairman, Mokwa LGA), Comrade Mohammed Sani Yahya (Legislative Aide I), Alhaji Usama Dodo Adamu (Gorozon Borgu), and Muawiyah Yusuf Muye (Legislative Aide II and Media Adviser to Senator Sani Bello).

Senator Bello’s intervention in Mokwa follows a pattern of swift, people-focused responses to disasters across Niger North, including recent support to communities in Ibeto and Darangi affected by natural disasters.
