Hon. Aliyu Muktar Betara, Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has contributed ₦100 million to support the Borno State Government in aiding victims of the recent flood disaster in Maiduguri, the state capital.

During an on-the-spot assessment of the affected areas, Betara handed over the donation to Governor Babagana Zulum, expressing his sorrow over the loss of lives and the displacement of thousands of residents.

He praised the Governor for his swift intervention in mitigating the impact of the flood.

Betara, who represents Biu/Bayo/Shani and Kwaya Kusar Federal Constituency, assured the victims of his commitment to securing further assistance through the relevant institutions to ensure their rehabilitation.

“Your Excellency, on behalf of the good people of Biu/Bayo/Shani/Kwaya Kusar Federal Constituency, I wish to commiserate with you, the State Government, and all those affected by this tragic flood, which led to the untimely loss of our beloved brothers and sisters,” Betara stated.

He further added, “Thousands of our people have been rendered homeless, and their livelihoods destroyed.

May Almighty Allah grant comfort to all affected and grant the departed souls Aljana-Firdaus.”

Betara also commended Governor Zulum’s administration for the support already provided to the victims.

“We are proud of your efforts and pledge our unwavering support to alleviate the suffering of our citizens who placed us in office,” he said.

Announcing his donation, Betara said, “On behalf of myself, my family, and the good people of Biu/Bayo/Shani/Kwaya Kusar Federal Constituency, I donate ₦100 million to support the affected people of Maiduguri.”

He also emphasized the need for urgent national attention, pledging to raise the issue in the House of Representatives as a matter of urgent public importance when the House resumes from recess.

According to the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), at least 37 people have lost their lives due to the flood, which began last Friday.
