Real Madrid have expressed strong dissatisfaction with the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) following the rejection of their request to postpone their opening La Liga match of the 2025/26 season against Osasuna, scheduled for August 19.
The Spanish champions had formally appealed to the RFEF to delay the fixture, citing their upcoming participation in the FIFA Club World Cup as the reason for the request.
The Club World Cup, a demanding international competition, is set to take place shortly before the start of the domestic season, placing an additional burden on the team’s players and staff.
Despite the club’s concerns over player welfare and match preparedness, a judge representing the RFEF dismissed the appeal, ruling that the match would go ahead as originally scheduled.
Real Madrid’s response has been one of frustration, as the club believes the decision undermines their efforts to adequately prepare for both domestic and international competitions.
The decision could also impact player rotation and recovery ahead of a congested fixture calendar.
