Real Madrid, Atlético Circle as Manchester United Slash Mainoo Price

Kobbie Mainoo’s future at Manchester United appears increasingly uncertain, with reports indicating the 20-year-old midfielder could depart before the close of the transfer window amid growing interest from Europe’s top clubs.

Barely a year after starting for England in the Euro 2024 final against Spain and scoring the winner in United’s FA Cup triumph over Manchester City, Mainoo is now edging towards an unexpected exit from Old Trafford.

Once hailed as one of the brightest prospects of his generation, the academy graduate is attracting serious attention from Real Madrid and Atlético Madrid, both of whom are monitoring his situation closely.

According to reports in Spain and England, Real Madrid are considering a loan approach as they search for a long-term successor to Toni Kroos. With uncertainty surrounding Dani Ceballos’ future, Mainoo has emerged as a potential addition to Xabi Alonso’s midfield rebuild.

Atlético Madrid, meanwhile, are also weighing up a move as they continue to strengthen their options in the middle of the park.

United, who in January valued Mainoo at £70 million when Chelsea made enquiries, are now believed to have dropped their asking price to around £45 million or less.

The sharp reduction has heightened speculation that a deal could be finalised quickly if a club pushes for a permanent transfer.

Sources close to the player suggest Mainoo is leaning towards a move abroad rather than staying in the Premier League, frustrated by limited playing opportunities under new manager Ruben Amorim.

The Portuguese coach initially viewed the youngster as a key component in his plans but later expressed concerns about his defensive contributions, restricting him to more advanced roles.

The summer arrivals of Benjamin Šeško, Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo have further reduced Mainoo’s chances of breaking into the first team, with Bruno Fernandes cementing his place as United’s creative heartbeat.

That competition has left the midfielder contemplating a switch to Spain, where both Madrid giants are prepared to hand him the platform to revive his career.

Mainoo’s next move could define the trajectory of a career that once promised to reshape Manchester United’s midfield for years to come.
