PSC Promotes 11 New AIGs, 16 Commissioners of Police

The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the promotion of 27 senior officers in the Nigeria Police Force. The promotions include 11 Commissioners of Police elevated to the rank of Assistant Inspectors General of Police (AIG) and 16 Deputy Commissioners of Police promoted to substantive Commissioners of Police.

In a statement, PSC spokesperson Ikechukwu Ani revealed that the promotions were approved following rigorous written and oral examinations conducted at the Commission’s headquarters on Monday, December 16, 2024.

Speaking on the development, PSC Chairman Hashimu Argungu emphasized the Commission’s commitment to reforming the promotion process across all ranks in the Nigeria Police Force.

“Henceforth, written and oral examinations will be prerequisites for promotions in all cadres,” Argungu said. He urged officers to continually enhance their skills, particularly in technology, and adopt global best practices.

The 11 newly promoted AIGs include:

Umar Shehu Nadada – Former Commissioner of Police, Nasarawa State
Mustapha Mohammed Bala – Former Commissioner of Police, Rivers State
Abayomi Peter Oladipo – Former Commissioner of Police, Ondo State
Taiwo Olatunde Adeleke – Former Commissioner of Police, SWAT, FCID, Abuja
Ibrahim Abdullahi, mni – Former Commissioner of Police, Kaduna State
Nwonyi Polycarp Emeka – Former Commissioner of Police, PPP, DLS, Force Headquarters, Abuja
Akinwale Kunle Adeniran – Former Commissioner of Police, Ekiti State
Zubairu Abubakar – Former Commissioner of Police, Police Staff College, Jos
Fom Pam Joseph – Former Commissioner of Police, Homicide, FCID, Abuja
Emuobo Fred Ekokotu – Former Commissioner of Police Admin, Airwing, Abuja
Garba Musa Yusuf – Former Deputy Commandant, Police Staff College, Jos

Martin Nwogoh, fdc – DC, DFA, Zone 2, Lagos
Shetima Jauro Mohammed – DC, SCID, Nasarawa State
Ibrahim Gotan – DC, DFA, Zone 2, Bauchi
Rabiu Mohammed – DC, Ops, Zone 3, Yola
Olugbenga Ayodeji Abimbola – DC, SCID, Ekiti State
Adepoju Olugbenga Adewale – DC, Ops, Rivers State
Bello Yahaya – DC, Anti-Money Laundering, FCID, Abuja
Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, PhD, mnim – DC, Ops, DOO AKPO, Bayelsa State
Hauwa Ibrahim Jibrin, mnips – DC, DFA, FCT

Ezekiel Philip Husseini – DC, ZCID, Zone 3, Yola

DIG Taiwo Lakanu, fdc, a member of the Commission and Chair of the Standing Committee on Police Promotions, oversaw the oral interviews. He urged the promoted officers to uphold the responsibilities of their new ranks and deliver exceptional service to the nation.

“Your promotions are based on merit, and we expect you to rise to the demands of your new roles. The Commission will continue to ensure timely and merit-based promotions,” DIG Lakanu stated.

This latest development reflects the PSC’s ongoing efforts to enhance professionalism and accountability within the Nigeria Police Force.
