President Bola Tinubu appointed Shehu Dikko as the new Chairman of the National Sports Commission on Wednesday.
This decision follows the dissolution of the Ministry of Sports Development, with its responsibilities now transferred to the National Sports Commission to foster a dynamic sports economy.
Senator John Enoh, previously the Minister of Sports Development, has been reassigned as the Minister of State for Trade and Investment.
Shehu Dikko, a football administrator from Kaduna State, has extensive experience in sports management.
He previously served as the Chairman of the League Management Company, overseeing the Nigerian Professional Football League, and was a consultant for the Nigerian House of Representatives Sports Committee.
In 2022, Dikko ran for the presidency of the Nigeria Football Federation but ultimately withdrew in favor of Ibrahim Gusau, who won the election.
In addition to the changes in the sports sector, the Ministry of Niger Delta has been dissolved and replaced with the Ministry of Regional Development, tasked with overseeing the operations of all Regional Development Commissions.
Furthermore, President Tinubu has merged the Federal Ministry of Tourism with the Federal Ministry of Arts and Culture to create the new Federal Ministry of Art, Culture, Tourism, and the Creative Economy.
