The Kano State Police Command has issued a stern warning to residents against participating in any form of protests, asserting their readiness to take decisive action against individuals or groups who violate this order. This caution was articulated by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Haruna, during a parade of arrested criminals at the Command’s headquarters in Bompai, Kano, on Monday.

Haruna emphasized that the police will not tolerate a recurrence of the violence witnessed during the recent #EndBadGovernance protests. “On the forthcoming Independence Day celebration on October 1, 2024, the Police Command has concluded all necessary arrangements to provide adequate security during and after the event period,” he stated.

He urged all residents of Kano State to cooperate with the police and other security agencies while participating responsibly in the Independence Day celebrations. “I therefore urge all Kano State residents to cooperate with the police as well as other security agencies and participate in the Independence Day celebration responsibly, adhering to all safety guidelines and respecting the rights of others.”

In preparation for potential security threats associated with the planned nationwide protest, Haruna confirmed that security deployments have been established at strategic locations across the state. He also noted a significant reduction in crime rates, saying, “We have to appreciate the fact that all forms of crime are reducing drastically.”

Regarding recent criminal activity, Haruna reported the apprehension of 89 suspects for various offenses, including kidnapping, human trafficking, armed robbery, drug dealing, and forgery. These arrests occurred at different locations within the state from September 12 to the present, with 53 suspects charged in court and 36 remaining under investigation.

In line with the directives of IGP Kayode Egbetokun for community-oriented and intelligence-led policing, the Command has implemented community engagement initiatives, intelligence-led operations, and continuous visibility patrols throughout Kano State. Haruna noted that these efforts have produced positive outcomes, significantly enhancing public safety and combating crime.
