The Bauchi State Police Command has recovered a vehicle belonging to the Emir of Bauchi, Rilwan Adamu, and arrested a suspect in connection with its theft from a filling station in the state capital.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, said the Toyota Hilux was stolen in the early hours of Monday, January 5, 2026, at Inkiya Filling Station, Bauchi.
Habib explained that a member of the Bauchi Emirate Council, Buhari Musa Umar, reported the incident to a police patrol team stationed at the Jos Road roundabout, stating that an unknown individual had driven away with the Emirate’s vehicle.
According to the report, the driver had parked the vehicle at the filling station to purchase fuel while en route to Ganjuwa Local Government Area to deliver messages on behalf of the Emir. He said he briefly stepped away to ease himself, only to return and discover that the vehicle was missing.
“Upon receiving the report, the patrol team immediately gave chase and successfully recovered the stolen Hilux around the Bayan Gari area, where the suspect was arrested while attempting to flee,” Habib said.
The police spokesperson added that the suspect confessed to the offence during interrogation, while investigations were ongoing to determine whether other individuals were involved in the theft.
He said the suspect would be properly profiled and charged to court at the conclusion of the investigation.
The Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property, assuring residents that the police would continue to ensure Bauchi State remains safe for both residents and visitors.
