The Niger State Police Command has arrested two men for alleged vandalism of iron materials at a construction site in Minna.
The suspects, identified as Zubairu Sarki Bello and Sulaiman Yusuf, both residents of the Brighter area of Minna, were apprehended on Saturday around 3:30 p.m.
In a statement released on Monday, the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Wasiu Abiodun, said the men were caught with suspected vandalised iron rods near a hotel under construction along Hilltop Road in Minna.
“Police operatives of ‘B’ Division Minna moved to the scene and arrested one Zubairu Sarki Bello and Sulaiman Yusuf of Brighter area, Minna,” Abiodun stated.
During interrogation, one of the suspects, Zubairu, reportedly claimed he was the facility’s security guard and that he was moving the iron to his residence for safekeeping.
Despite the claim, Abiodun confirmed that both men remain in custody as investigations continue.
“Both suspects are under investigation,” he said.
The arrest comes amid growing concerns over vandalism and theft across Niger State, particularly incidents targeting construction materials and public property.
The police command assured that further updates would be provided as investigations progress and urged residents to promptly report suspicious activities within their communities.
