The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested six individuals suspected of vandalizing electric installations and engaging in theft. Several stolen items, including electric aluminum conductors, have been recovered.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, Ahmed Wakil, disclosed this in a press statement issued on Tuesday.
Wakil detailed one of the incidents, stating, “On December 25, 2024, detectives on night patrol intercepted Hamza Mohammed, 20, of Gwallameji area, and Mustapha Sa’idu, 22, of Rafin Tambari. They had conspired to trespass into a residence in Rafin Tambari, where they stole two vehicle tires and two bags of cement, valued at N249,000.”
Further investigations revealed that on January 14, 2025, the same group, with an accomplice named Aliyu Musa, vandalized an electric aluminum conductor belonging to Jos Electricity Distribution (JED) at Tambari Housing Estate.
The suspects later admitted to the crime and confessed to negotiating the sale of the stolen materials to one Al-Ameen Ibrahim, located in the IDC area of Bauchi.
Among the recovered items were:
A bundle of electric aluminum conductors
One hacksaw
One Jincheng motorcycle
Wakil assured that investigations were ongoing and that the suspects would be prosecuted accordingly.
Police Make Arrests in Separate Criminal Cases
In an unrelated incident, police operatives in Kirfi Local Government Area arrested a 45-year-old man, Shehu Isah, for allegedly defiling a five-year-old girl.
“On January 25, 2025, officers from Kirfi Divisional Police Headquarters, acting on credible intelligence, apprehended Shehu Isah of Unguwan Karofi. He had allegedly lured a five-year-old girl (name withheld) into his room and committed the offense,” Wakil stated.
Additionally, the Ningi Divisional Police Headquarters handled a case involving the abduction of a 10-year-old girl.
“On January 15, 2025, a report was filed about a missing 10-year-old girl (name withheld). The next day, detectives—working with community security personnel—intercepted a suspect, Shafi’u Sule of Katsinawa Tabulawa village, in the Tsohuwar Ningi area. The missing girl was found in his custody,” Wakil explained.
Investigations revealed that the suspect had threatened the child, warning her that he would cut off her tongue and burn her alive if she attempted to call for help.
During questioning, the suspect confirmed the victim’s statements.
The Commissioner of Police, Auwal Muhammad, has directed that all cases be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further inquiry before the suspects face prosecution.
