A delegation from the Plateau State Government has paid a condolence visit to the Emir of Zazzau, Alhaji Ahmed Bamalli, following the killing of several travellers in the Mangun community of Mangu Local Government Area.

The delegation, led by the Emir of Wase, Alhaji Muhammadu Haruna, visited the Zazzau Emirate to commiserate with the monarch and the families of the victims.

According to reports by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the victims were attacked by hoodlums on June 20 while travelling from Zaria, Kaduna State, to Qua’an Pan Local Government Area of Plateau State for a wedding. It was reported that the travellers lost their way and mistakenly entered Mangun, where the attack occurred.

Governor Caleb Mutfwang condemned the killings, describing the incident as a “criminal act.” The Plateau State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of 22 suspects in connection with the attack.

Speaking to NAN on Tuesday in Jos, Alhaji Haruna emphasized the purpose of the visit and called for continued peaceful relations between the two states.

“Last Sunday, I led a delegation of top government functionaries from Plateau to commiserate with the Emir and people of the Zazzau Emirate over the unfortunate incident that claimed some lives,” he said.

“Kaduna State and the Zazzau Emirate have enjoyed cordial relations with Plateau; so we condemn the criminal act in totality because Plateau people are accommodating.”

He stressed that justice would be served and that the state government was committed to ensuring that the matter was not ignored.

“As we speak, some arrests have been made, and this is an indication that the government of Plateau will not sweep this matter under the carpet. Anyone found guilty will face the full wrath of the law; we will ensure that justice is served,” Haruna added.

He also expressed appreciation to the Emir of Zazzau for the warm reception accorded the delegation and commended him for helping to prevent any reprisal attacks in his domain.

Haruna further assured the bereaved families that the Plateau State Government would provide support to help cushion the hardship resulting from the tragic loss of their loved ones.
