The Skills Acquisition Centre under the Department of Girl Child Education and Child Development in Katsina State celebrated the graduation of over 500 women trained in various vocational fields.

The graduates, predominantly young women, received comprehensive training in tailoring (141 participants), leatherwork (114), catering (53), computer skills (27), cosmetology (90), and knitting (76).

Governor Dikko Radda, who presided over the graduation ceremony on Sunday, highlighted the programme as a testament to his administration’s commitment to empowering citizens and fostering economic development.

“This milestone reflects our dedication to creating opportunities for education, empowerment, and progress,” Governor Radda remarked.

He commended the Department of Girl Child Education and Child Development for implementing the programme effectively and urged the graduates to harness their newly acquired skills as tools for personal growth and societal transformation.

In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Ibrahim Kaula Mohammed, the governor underscored the importance of parents, guardians, and well-wishers in supporting the graduates throughout their journey.

“Today’s achievements are not merely about certificates and skills; they symbolize the fulfillment of our promise to the young women of our state—that every dream is valid, every aspiration attainable, and every skill acquired is a stepping stone towards a brighter future,” he stated.

In her address, the Special Adviser to the Department, Jamila Mani, revealed the centre’s curriculum expansion to include advanced technology training, with over 100 trainees enrolled in robotics courses.

“The students have already demonstrated exceptional skills by developing innovative solutions, including automated irrigation systems, traffic light controls, and self-driving car prototypes with accident detection capabilities,” Mani announced.

She attributed these successes to the support and strategic vision of Governor Radda, emphasizing his belief in the potential of girls and his commitment to an inclusive and prosperous Katsina State.

Guest speaker Malama Ibrahim, in her lecture titled “The Importance of Girl Child Education and Empowerment,” encouraged the trainees to continue learning, asserting that education is key to a woman’s success and empowerment.

The event underscored the transformative potential of skills acquisition and education, empowering young women to contribute meaningfully to the development of their communities and beyond.
