The National Universities Commission (NUC) has approved ten new undergraduate programmes for Kwara State University (KWASU), effective from the 2024/2025 academic session.
This development raises the university’s total number of undergraduate courses to 80.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the Acting Director of University Relations, Dr. Saeedat Aliyu, confirmed the approval. According to her, the NUC conveyed its decision in a letter addressed to KWASU’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Shaykh-Luqman Jimoh.
The letter, signed by the Acting Director of Academic Planning, Abubakar M. Girei, highlighted that the approval followed a successful resource verification exercise conducted by panels of experts.
The newly approved programmes include B.Sc. Estate Management, B.Sc. Geography, B.Sc. Urban and Regional Planning, B.Sc. Mining Engineering, B.Sc. Marketing, B.Sc. Sociology, B.Sc. Criminology and Security Studies, B.Sc. Physiology, B.Sc. Human Anatomy, and B.Sc. Cyber Security.
The NUC emphasized that these programmes would operate in full-time mode and urged the university to ensure the availability of adequate human and material resources for their proper implementation.
Reacting to the announcement, KWASU’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Shaykh-Luqman Jimoh, described the development as a significant milestone that aligns with the university’s mission to produce skilled human resources for national development.
He commended the hard work and dedication of the university’s staff in meeting the NUC’s requirements.
This latest approval reflects KWASU’s commitment to expanding academic offerings and strengthening its role in advancing education and research in Nigeria.
