The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Kano State has confirmed the arrest of 18-year-old Umar Abdullahi for allegedly vandalizing streetlight armoured cables in Hotoro quarters, located in the Nasarawa Local Government Area.
Abdullahi, a resident of Hotoro, was apprehended on Friday by NSCDC operatives in collaboration with a local vigilante group.
The arrest took place near the NNPC Mega Station in Hotoro as Abdullahi attempted to escape with the stolen cables.
Speaking on the arrest, NSCDC representative SC Ibrahim Idris stated that preliminary investigations revealed Abdullahi was part of a three-man gang involved in the vandalism. Abdullahi has been detained at the NSCDC headquarters for further questioning.
The NSCDC has reportedly concluded its investigation and plans to charge Abdullahi in court, along with presenting the recovered cables as evidence.
Efforts are also underway to capture the remaining members of the gang.
