Nigeria’s achievements at the 2024 Confederation of African Football (CAF) Awards have further elevated the country’s international profile, according to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen.

In a statement signed by his special adviser on media and publicity, Musa Abdullahi Krishi, the Speaker highlighted how sports and entertainment continue to serve as unifying forces for Nigerians across ethnic and religious divides.

Abbas celebrated the remarkable victories at the awards, including Super Eagles striker Ademola Lookman’s crowning as African Footballer of the Year.

He also lauded the Super Falcons for retaining the Women’s National Team of the Year title and applauded Chiamaka Nnadozie for successfully defending her Goalkeeper of the Year award.

These achievements, he noted, have brought immense pride and joy to Nigerians.

The Speaker emphasized the significance of Lookman’s win, which follows Victor Osimhen’s triumph in the same category the previous year. He remarked that this back-to-back success underscores Nigeria’s dominance in African football and its ability to produce world-class talents.

With Nigerian players having claimed the African Player of the Year title a record seven times, Abbas underscored the country’s resilience in overcoming challenges to remain a talent hub across various sectors.

He called for increased investment in Nigerian youth, noting their immense potential in sports, entertainment, science, and other fields.

As he congratulated the award recipients, the Speaker urged them to uphold their status as exemplary ambassadors for Nigeria and to continue enhancing the country’s global image.
