The Governments of Nigeria and Germany, reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing bilateral defence relations with the signing of a renewed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the German Technical Advisory Group.

This development was announced in a statement issued by Mr. Sunday Iyogu, Principal Information Officer at the Ministry of Defence, on Friday in Abuja.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Gabriel Aduda, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Defence, described the MoU as a strategic counterpart funding arrangement, highlighting its significance in reinforcing the strong defence ties between both nations.

Aduda emphasized that the renewed agreement was in line with the shared objectives of Nigeria and Germany, aiming to promote long-term security cooperation and developmental goals.

He stressed the Nigerian government’s commitment to ensuring accountability and efficiency in the implementation of the agreement.

“We are committed to ensuring strict adherence to timelines and rigorous monitoring to guarantee the effective execution of all agreed engagements,” Aduda stated.

“Additionally, all procurement aspects of the agreement will undergo thorough evaluation to ensure value for money,” he continued.

In his remarks, Colonel Boris Bovekemp, the German Defence Attaché to Nigeria, reiterated Germany’s steadfast commitment to deepening cooperation in key areas, particularly defence, security, and capacity-building initiatives.

Bovekemp praised the enduring partnership between the two countries and emphasized the need to strengthen existing agreements to address the evolving security challenges both nations face.

The renewed MoU marks a significant milestone in the Nigeria-Germany defence partnership, reinforcing mutual efforts to enhance security, capacity development, and technical cooperation.
