The National Examinations Council (NECO) has cautioned Nigerians against falling victim to fraudulent recruitment advertisements circulating online, stressing that it is neither recruiting nor planning to recruit new staff.

The Council issued the warning on Wednesday following the circulation of a publication on social media platforms claiming that vacancies had been declared at the examination body.

NECO’s Director of Information and Public Relations, Azeez Sani, described the advertisement as a deliberate attempt by fraudsters to extort money from unsuspecting members of the public.

He explained that such false announcements are common tactics used by criminal syndicates to exploit the desperation of job seekers.

According to the Council, there is no ongoing recruitment exercise, and whenever approval is granted by the Federal Government for staff recruitment, NECO will follow due process and comply with all extant laws governing employment into public service.

The Council urged Nigerians to remain vigilant and disregard the publication, reiterating its commitment to transparency and accountability under the leadership of its Registrar and Chief Executive, Professor Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi.
