The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has announced that it will offer free legal representation to #EndBadGovernance protesters facing court cases nationwide.

Mazi Afam Osigwe, who made the announcement via his X handle on Wednesday, also directed NBA branches to closely monitor legal proceedings across the country.

Osigwe stated, “I have directed the branches of the Nigerian Bar Association (@NigBarAssoc) to oversee the trials of the #EndBadGovernance protesters.

Additionally, I have launched a Pro Bono support initiative to assist those lacking legal representation.”

The NBA Citizens’ Liberties Committee (NBA-CLC) will coordinate with the Chairmen and Human Rights Committees of NBA branches in regions where protesters are being prosecuted to ensure fair treatment.

Osigwe emphasized that the NBA legal team will continue to monitor court proceedings to uphold due process and protect the defendants’ legal rights.

“The Nigerian Bar Association legal teams are actively involved in the courts and will persist in overseeing proceedings to ensure the rule of law is maintained, human rights are protected, and justice is served,” Osigwe added.

The PUNCH reports that some #EndBadGovernance protesters have been remanded in Kuje Correctional Centre following charges of treason.

Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court in Abuja ordered their remand on Monday, with a bail hearing scheduled for September 11, 2024.

The protesters have pleaded not guilty to six counts of terrorism levied against them by the Federal Government.
