The National Assembly is poised to receive President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a special joint session of the Senate and House of Representatives.
In preparation for the visit, the legislative complex in Abuja has been decorated with green and white—the national colours symbolizing Nigeria’s agricultural heritage. Banners bearing the names and portraits of past and present Senate Presidents and Speakers now line the premises, along with a welcoming message for the President.
President Tinubu is scheduled to address the joint session at 12:00 p.m., where he is expected to speak to the nation on key issues, including national development and the state of the country.
This event comes ahead of the June 12 Democracy Day celebration, which has been observed annually since 2018 to commemorate the 1993 presidential election widely regarded as a pivotal moment in Nigeria’s democratic evolution.
The theme for this year’s observance is: “26 Years of Democracy: Renewing Our Commitment to National Development.”
