Operatives from the Nasarawa State Police Command arrested Hauwa Sani on Friday for attempting to smuggle 124 rounds of anti-aircraft ammunition concealed in a gallon of palm oil.

Sani, who was also accompanied by a two-year-old child, was apprehended while en route to Katsina State.

According to a statement from the command’s Public Relations Officer, Ramhan Nansel, the suspect was intercepted by police from the Keffi Division.

The authorities recovered the ammunition, a Tecno mobile phone, and ₦78,500 in cash from Sani.

The statement reads: “On 23/8/2024 at about 1710hrs, based on credible information, Police operatives attached to Keffi Division intercepted and arrested Hauwa Sani, a resident of Doro village, Katsina State, along with a 2-year-old child.”

It continues, “One hundred and twenty-four rounds of anti-aircraft ammunition concealed in a gallon of palm oil, one Tecno mobile phone, and a cash sum of ₦78,500 were recovered from the suspect.”

Preliminary investigations revealed that Sani had received the ammunition at Rafin Sanyi village in Doma Local Government Area of Nasarawa State and was transporting it to Katsina when she was arrested.

Nasarawa State Commissioner of Police, Shehu Nadada, has directed that Sani and the recovered items be transferred to the Force Intelligence Department at Force Headquarters in Abuja for further investigation.
