The Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) has introduced significant restrictions on grazing activities in Kwara State to foster peaceful coexistence between herders and farmers.

Announcing the new rules during an event in Ilorin, the capital of Kwara State, MACBAN’s National President, Alhaji Baba Othman-Ngelzarma, said night grazing has been banned throughout the state.

The ban aims to prevent conflicts that often arise between farmers and herders, especially due to encroachment on farmlands at night.

In addition to the night grazing ban, the association has prohibited children from participating in grazing activities.

The decision comes as part of efforts to promote better control over livestock and reduce the chances of cattle straying into farmlands.

Alhaji Othman-Ngelzarma emphasized that any member of the association found grazing cattle at night or allowing children to manage livestock would face strict consequences.

He stressed that MACBAN is committed to working with security agencies to ensure compliance with the new regulations.

To further enforce the new rules, Alhaji Idris Abubakar, the newly appointed Chairman of MACBAN in Kwara State, pledged full cooperation with local authorities.

He affirmed that the association would take necessary steps to implement the bans and avoid any disruptions to the peace in the state.

These measures highlight the association’s dedication to maintaining harmony between pastoralists and the farming community in Kwara, ensuring a more peaceful environment for all residents.
