The Nigerian Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has initiated a comprehensive investigation into bribery allegations within the Nigerian Correctional Service.

This move comes in the wake of a viral video suggesting that some influential figures may have facilitated special treatment for convicted individuals.

A video posted by Martins Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan, highlighted claims made by Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky.

Bobrisky alleged that following his recent sentencing, arrangements were made for him to serve his six-month sentence in a private apartment rather than in prison.

The viral video stirred controversy as Bobrisky explained that his godfather, in collaboration with the Controller General of the Nigerian Correctional Service, ensured he avoided serving time in a correctional facility. Instead, he claims he was placed in a private apartment near the prison.

In response to these allegations, the Minister of Interior strongly condemned the purported misconduct.

Through his media aide, Alao Babatunde, Tunji-Ojo announced that any form of indiscipline, corruption, or unprofessional behavior within the correctional service will be dealt with severely.

The minister emphasized the need to uphold the values of integrity, transparency, and accountability in all paramilitary services under the Ministry’s jurisdiction.

To ensure a thorough investigation, the minister has assembled a special investigative team led by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Dr. Magdalene Ajani. This team has been tasked with probing the allegations and delivering a detailed report.

The Minister assured the public that the investigation will be carried out with full transparency, and that any personnel found guilty will face appropriate disciplinary measures.

The investigation is expected to be rigorous, and the outcome will likely influence future operations and accountability within the Nigerian Correctional Service.
