Kylian Mbappé has set his sights on becoming France’s all-time leading goalscorer after overtaking Thierry Henry to move into second place on the nation’s scoring list.
The forward scored and provided an assist in France’s victory over Iceland on Tuesday, taking his tally to five goals in as many games this season. His strike moved him past Henry, leaving only Olivier Giroud ahead of him.
Reacting after the match, Mbappé said he was proud of the achievement but insisted he would not celebrate just yet.

“To overtake him is really great. But there’s still one person to overtake, I think, so I’m not going to celebrate too much. There’s still work to be done,” he said.
Asked about the team’s performance, the Real Madrid star highlighted the importance of the win and the lessons to be drawn from the international break.
“We’re happy to have beaten our direct competitors. There are quite a few lessons to be learned. These are always good games to analyse. We’re still there, we managed to collect a lot of points. There are things we did well, and there are quite a few things to learn from this international break,” he noted.
Mbappé will now return to club duty with Real Madrid as they prepare to face Real Sociedad this weekend.
