The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a man, Alex Eziochukwu, in connection with the death of a 16-year-old boy, Jamilu Lasisi, during a football match in the Ibegba area of Sagamu Local Government, Ogun State.

The tragic incident occurred on Tuesday following an altercation between Eziochukwu and Lasisi on the football pitch.

According to sources, a dispute between the two escalated, leading to a physical confrontation. During the fight, Lasisi collapsed on the field and was immediately rushed to Owokoniran Hospital, where he was declared dead by the attending doctor.

Following the teenager’s death, Eziochukwu fled the scene, prompting the Ogun State Police to launch a manhunt.

Early on Wednesday morning, the police received a tip-off from an informant, which led to the suspect’s arrest at around 4 a.m.

The state police spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, confirmed the arrest, explaining that a team of detectives had been dispatched to the scene on Tuesday after the initial report.

Despite a thorough search of the area, the suspect had initially evaded capture.

In the wake of the incident, the deceased’s body is in the process of being transferred to a local mortuary for further examination.

Meanwhile, the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the altercation and the teenager’s untimely death continues.
