The Lagos State Police Command has debunked claims that one of its officers assaulted a Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) official in the Lekki area.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the command’s spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, clarified that the suspect, Monalisa Osayi, who was arrested on December 7 for physically assaulting FRSC personnel, is not a police officer.

“The command wishes to debunk claims making the rounds that Monalisa Osayi, who was arrested for physically assaulting officials of the FRSC on December 7, is a police officer,” Hundeyin stated.

He explained that Osayi was arrested and prosecuted by the Ajah Division of the Lagos State Police Command. “Were she a police officer, internal disciplinary processes would have first been activated, resulting in her suspension or dismissal, before she could be arraigned in court,” he added.

The clarification follows reports by PUNCH Online regarding the November 7 incident, during which FRSC personnel flagged down a Toyota Corolla with registration number EPE690HH for a seatbelt violation along the Lekki-Epe Expressway. The case was said to have involved aggression against an FRSC official.

Hundeyin called on the public to disregard false claims linking the suspect to the police force. He further assured the public of the strong collaboration between the police and other security agencies, including the FRSC.

“The synergy between the police and the FRSC and, indeed, other sister security agencies is robust and remains of paramount importance in the security architecture of Lagos State,” Hundeyin concluded.
