Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf, presented a landmark N549.16 billion budget for 2025, with a strong focus on education, health, and infrastructure.

The budget, named the “Budget of Hope, Human Capital, and Economic Development,” allocates 57% (N312.63 billion) to capital projects, while 43% (N236.53 billion) is earmarked for recurrent expenditure, highlighting the administration’s commitment to sustainable development.

Education receives the largest portion, with N168.35 billion, or 31% of the total budget—marking the highest allocation ever for any single ministry in Kano’s history.

Health follows with N90.6 billion (16.5%), and infrastructure development is allotted N70.68 billion (12.87%).

Other significant allocations include governance institutions at N98.24 billion (17.57%), security and justice at N23.46 billion (4%), and agriculture at N21.04 billion (3.83%).

“Our focus for 2025 is human capital and infrastructural development,” Governor Yusuf stated during his address.

He emphasized the administration’s commitment to expanding access to quality education despite limited resources and announced plans to revive the Kano Education Development Support (KEDS) agency to boost educational funding.

Yusuf expressed confidence that the state legislature would support the initiative, saying, “I believe the legislature will give the necessary legal teeth in fine-tuning its edict for full implementation.”

In addition, the Governor outlined proposed legislative reforms, including bills on social protection, education trust, security, and civil service, aimed at strengthening governance and promoting long-term growth.

“The 2025 budget reflects our strategic focus on balancing social needs with economic growth,” Governor Yusuf said.

“We will not relent in our resolve to alleviate poverty, restore hope, create wealth, generate employment, and stimulate agriculture for the overall well-being of our people,” he continued.

He called on the state Assembly for swift approval of the budget to begin its full implementation.

In response, Speaker Jibril Falgore assured the Governor that the Assembly was committed to ensuring the budget’s prompt passage.

“We understand the importance of timely implementation for the benefit of our people, and we will work diligently to ensure the budget is reviewed and passed promptly,” he stated.

Budget deliberations will begin in the coming weeks as the Kano State Assembly prepares to review and approve the proposed expenditure.
