The Kaduna State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of 13 suspects in connection with the tragic murder of a naval officer, Lt. Commodore M. Buba, in the Kawo area of Kaduna State on Sunday.
According to the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Mansir Hassan, the late officer—who was a senior course student at the Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Jaji—was attacked and fatally stabbed at about 5:20 a.m. near the Kawo flyover.
“He was attacked and stabbed on the chest with a knife at a bus stop before Kawo flyover,” DSP Hassan told Channels Television.
Police investigations revealed that the officer had encountered a flat tyre while returning from Jaji. As he stepped out of his vehicle to change the tyre, an unidentified assailant approached and demanded his mobile phone. When the officer questioned the demand and refused to hand it over, the assailant stabbed him in the chest with a locally made knife.
The attacker was subsequently overpowered and lynched by bystanders, who beat him to death at the scene. Meanwhile, the injured officer was rushed to Manaal Hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
In response to the incident, security operatives conducted a raid in the Kawo area, leading to the arrest of 13 individuals found in possession of knives and other dangerous weapons.
The Kaduna State Police Command says investigations are ongoing.
