Iran has executed a man accused of passing sensitive information to Israel’s intelligence agency, Mossad, as part of a broader crackdown on alleged collaborators following the recent 12-day conflict between the two nations.
The executed individual, identified as Roozbeh Vadi, was accused of leaking classified details about an Iranian nuclear scientist who was assassinated during Israel’s military campaign in June.
Iran’s judiciary confirmed the execution was carried out by hanging after the Supreme Court upheld the verdict.
Details surrounding Vadi’s arrest and trial remain unclear, but Iran’s judiciary outlet, Mizan Online, reported that he had been recruited online by Mossad. Authorities said the information he provided played a role in the targeting and killing of Iranian nuclear experts.
The June conflict, triggered by an Israeli bombing campaign, marked one of the most intense confrontations between the two countries in recent years.
Israeli airstrikes reportedly claimed the lives of several top Iranian military officials, nuclear scientists, and hundreds of civilians. Iranian forces retaliated with a barrage of missiles and drone attacks.
Iranian media reported that at least a dozen nuclear scientists were killed during the hostilities.
In response, Tehran pledged swift justice for anyone found aiding Israel, leading to numerous arrests and the announcement of several executions linked to espionage activities.
According to international human rights organizations, Iran continues to rank as the world’s second-highest executioner after China, raising ongoing concerns about due process and the use of the death penalty.
