The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that the nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise will commence on August 18, 2025, across 811 designated centres in the 774 local government areas, 36 states, and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
According to a statement issued on Thursday by INEC National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun, the exercise will hold from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Mondays through Fridays, excluding national public holidays.
“The exercise will hold in 811 centres made up of our 774 Local Government, 37 State and Federal Capital Territory (FCT) offices nationwide from 9.00am to 3.00pm (Monday to Friday) every week with the exception of national public holidays,” Olumekun stated.
He explained that the CVR would kick off with online pre-registration on August 18, while in-person registration would begin a week later on August 25.
Both processes will run concurrently until August 30, 2026.
“For easy identification, the Commission is deploying an online CVR Live Locator to assist citizens locate the registration centres nationwide,” he added.
“The locator will go live a day to the commencement of the CVR on 17th August 2025 and can be accessed at https://cvr.inecnigeria.org/locator.”
Olumekun also revealed that INEC has uploaded a 38-page document listing the addresses of the 811 in-person registration centres to its website and other official platforms.
Additionally, dedicated telephone numbers have been provided for each state to serve as Help Desk lines for citizens seeking further clarification.
He noted that the procedures for both online and in-person registration remain unchanged from the 2022 exercise. Detailed information, including explanatory video clips, will be released by the commission in the coming week.
On political party registration, Olumekun disclosed that the Commission had received eight new letters of intent from associations seeking registration as political parties, bringing the total number to 151.
“Since the fourth update released on 23rd July 2025, the commission has received eight more letters of intent from associations seeking registration as political parties.
This brings the number received so far to 151,” he said.
He added that details of the latest applications including proposed names, acronyms, logos, addresses, and interim leadership have been uploaded to the Commission’s website and online platforms for public information.
“Meanwhile, having created the portal for party registration, the Commission has commenced the shortlisting of the associations that meet the requirements to proceed to the application stage,” Olumekun said.
“Details will be released immediately after the 16 bye-elections in 12 States scheduled for Saturday 16th August 2025. Once again, we reassure Nigerians that the Commission shall continue to keep citizens informed on all its activities.”
