Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has instructed all police commands and formations nationwide to implement a comprehensive action plan aimed at reducing crime rates by 50 percent in 2025.

Egbetokun issued the directive on Monday during the opening of the 2025 Conference and Retreat for Senior Police Officers in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

Highlighting the significance of inclusive policing in addressing security challenges, the IGP stressed the need for a collaborative, all-society approach to enhance public safety and drive economic prosperity.

“Our intensified operations and commitment to working alongside the military and other security agencies in combating banditry, kidnapping, and organized crime have yielded significant results over the past year,” Egbetokun stated. “Moving forward, all commands and formations must implement a comprehensive action plan to achieve a 50 percent reduction in crime by 2025. This objective will be a key focus of our discussions at this conference.”

He further emphasized the Force’s commitment to intelligence-led policing, strategic partnerships with domestic and international security agencies, and community engagement to strengthen public trust.

On capacity building, the IGP revealed that plans have been finalized for specialized training in forensic investigation, intelligence gathering, counter-terrorism, and cybercrime detection. “These programs will be conducted in collaboration with local and international stakeholders to equip our officers with the necessary skills for modern law enforcement,” he said.

“As we advance through this policing year, our priorities remain enhancing intelligence-sharing, strengthening forensic and digital investigative capabilities, and maintaining zero tolerance for corruption and human rights violations within the Force,” Egbetokun added.

Now in its fifth edition, the annual conference serves as a platform for senior police officers to review administrative and operational strategies, exchange insights, and align policing objectives with evolving global security trends.

Themed “Improving Nigeria’s Internal Security and Economic Prosperity through Inclusive Policing,” the conference is expected to shape the future of policing in Nigeria by fostering innovative and actionable security strategies.
