Two individuals were shot and killed by gunmen in Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State, leaving two others injured in a tragic incident early Monday.

Ogun State Police Command spokesperson Omolola Odutola confirmed the incident in a statement, detailing that it occurred around 12:30 a.m. in the parking lot of Diamond Dumplings in the Government Reservation Area (GRA) of Abeokuta.

“Three armed men in an unregistered black Toyota Hilux approached the occupants of a black Mercedes Benz GLE 350 with a DLA license plate, demanding the keys to the vehicle,” Odutola said.

“The assailants opened fire, hitting one Ola (surname unknown) and one Shobanke Oluwatimileyin, along with two others,” she added.

Responding to distress calls, the Divisional Police Officer of Ibara arrived on the scene, securing the area and ensuring that the victims were rushed to the hospital.

Tragically, two of the victims were confirmed dead upon arrival, while the remaining two are receiving treatment at the Federal Medical Centre in Idi Aba, Abeokuta.

Preliminary investigations have been launched to identify the circumstances surrounding the attack and assess any potential connections to cult activity.

“The public will be informed of the investigation’s progress in the coming days, with a focus on apprehending the suspects still at large,” Odutola stated.
