Gunman Planned To Target Top Trump Officials – Attorney General
Investigators have revealed that the gunman who attempted to storm a high-profile gala attended by former U.S. President Donald Trump had planned to target senior government officials, raising fresh concerns over security at major political events.
The incident occurred during the White House Correspondents’ Dinner in Washington, where the suspect tried to breach a security checkpoint before being intercepted by law enforcement. Authorities say the attack appears to have been premeditated and politically motivated.
According to Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche, early findings suggest the assailant intended to focus on members of the Trump administration, possibly including the president himself.
President Trump was swiftly evacuated from the venue by Secret Service agents as the situation unfolded. Footage later shared showed the suspect attempting to dash past security while armed guards responded.
Authorities also disclosed that the suspect had travelled across the country prior to the attack and had checked into the same hotel hosting the event, indicating a level of planning behind the incident.
Although no fatalities were recorded, at least one security officer was struck during the confrontation but survived due to protective gear. The suspect was subdued at the scene and taken into custody, where he is expected to face multiple federal charges.
Officials say investigations are ongoing, including analysis of writings and digital evidence believed to outline the suspect’s motives and intended targets, as authorities continue to assess potential security lapses surrounding the event.
