The Lagos State Government announced the reopening of the Odo Iya Alaro Bridge in the Maryland area on Monday, following its temporary closure for repairs less than two months ago.

This update was shared by the state Commissioner for Transport, Oluwaseun Osiyemi.

Osiyemi explained that the rehabilitation, carried out by the Ministry of Works, began on July 22, 2024.

He emphasized that the early completion of the project, which was finished in under two months, will improve traffic flow and ease movement between the Mainland and the Island.

In a statement, Osiyemi said, “We are delighted to inform all road users that the rehabilitation of the Odo Iya Alaro Bridge, executed by the Ministry of Works, Lagos, has been completed ahead of schedule.

The bridge will be reopened today, significantly earlier than the initial 90-day timeline.”

He thanked Lagos residents for their patience and cooperation during the closure, noting that their willingness to use alternative routes contributed to the swift progress of the project.

“This rehabilitation will enhance traffic flow and ease movement between the Mainland and the Island,” he added.

Osiyemi also expressed gratitude to the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) for their effective traffic management during the repairs.

At the reopening, Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat issued a stern warning to vandals and scavengers, stressing the dangers and consequences of damaging government property.
