A fuel tanker explosion in Kontagora, Niger State, on Sunday caused panic among residents and motorists, though no casualties were recorded.
The incident occurred near AA Rano, opposite Kontagora General Hospital, sending thick black smoke into the sky. Eyewitnesses reported that the tanker suddenly burst into flames.
Firefighters and emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to nearby structures. Despite the intensity of the fire, only the tanker was destroyed.
Hussaini Ibrahim, Director of Information at the Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA), assured the public that the situation was under control.
“No lives were lost, and apart from the burnt tanker, no other property was affected,” he told Channels Television.
Authorities have yet to determine the exact cause of the explosion, but preliminary findings suggest a possible mechanical fault or fuel leakage may have triggered the incident.
