The Edo State House of Assembly on Wednesday confirmed Dr. Samson Osagie as the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice.

This confirmation follows his nomination by Governor Monday Okpebholo, who put forward Osagie for the role shortly after his inauguration.

In a letter to Speaker Blessing Agbebaku, Governor Okpebholo requested the Assembly’s endorsement of Osagie’s nomination, as well as expedited consideration of the 2024 supplementary budget to support efficient governance.

Speaker Agbebaku noted that, given Osagie’s prior service as a two-term Assembly member from 1999 to 2007, he would not undergo a rigorous screening process.

“In recognition of his contributions as a former lawmaker at both state and national levels, Dr. Osagie should be allowed to take a bow and be confirmed,” Agbebaku stated, following the House tradition for distinguished former legislators.

The Assembly unanimously confirmed Osagie’s appointment through a voice vote.

A seasoned legal practitioner called to the Nigerian Bar in 1995, Osagie is currently Vice President of the African Bar Association for the West African Region.

Born on November 11, 1967, he hails from Uhunmwode Local Government Area and has previously served as Minority Whip in the House of Representatives.
