The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has expressed deep sorrow and solidarity with the government and people of Ghana following the tragic helicopter crash that claimed the lives of several senior government officials.
Among those killed in the crash were Ghana’s Minister of Defence, Edward Omane Boamah, and Minister of Environment, Science, and Technology, Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed. The fatal incident occurred on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, and has thrown the nation into mourning.
In an official statement, ECOWAS President Omar Touray extended the regional bloc’s condolences to the bereaved families, the Ghanaian government, and the people of Ghana.
“It is with profound sorrow that we have received the tragic news of the helicopter crash in Ghana. Our thoughts and prayers are with you in this moment of national grief,” he said.
The ECOWAS leadership reaffirmed its unwavering support for Ghana during this difficult period, pledging both emotional and logistical assistance as the country investigates the cause of the accident.
