The management of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Osun State, has reported the disappearance of a female undergraduate, Dorcas Oseghale, to the police, sparking concern within the campus community.
Dorcas, a student in the Department of Chemistry with matriculation number CHM/2021/165, was last seen on the evening of August 6, 2025, at around 8:00 p.m.
She reportedly left her residence at Adesanmi House, Ibadan Road, Ile-Ife, to purchase food near the Students’ Village along Ede Road but never returned. Efforts by her roommate to reach her via phone were unsuccessful, as both of Dorcas’ lines were switched off.
By the following day, August 7, at about 3:00 p.m., the university’s Security Unit began monitoring discussions on student social media platforms regarding her disappearance.
Later that evening, at about 6:10 p.m., a search group comprising students from the Department of Chemistry and Dorcas’ roommate, Akinkuade Omobolanle Beatrice of Agricultural Extension, formally reported the matter to the Security Unit.
Recognising the seriousness of the case and the need for broader investigative capacity, the university assigned three security personnel to work with the students and share preliminary findings with the police.
Vice Chancellor, Professor Simeon Bamire, praised the students for their swift action in noticing and reporting the case.
He appealed to the police and other security agencies to intensify efforts to locate Dorcas and called on members of the public with relevant information to contact the nearest police station or the university’s security unit.
The incident has heightened safety concerns on campus, as students and staff await updates on the search efforts.
