Nigerian music superstar Damini Ogulu, widely known as Burna Boy, has once again raised the bar for African artistes on the global stage by setting a new record on the prestigious US Billboard Hot 100 chart.
The Grammy Award-winning singer became the first African artiste to secure seven entries on the chart after his latest collaboration with American rapper Gunna, titled WGFT, debuted at number 96 on Tuesday.
This milestone extends Burna Boy’s dominance, as he is also the first African artiste to debut a song on the Hot 100 for five consecutive years, spanning from 2021 to 2025.
His journey on the chart began in 2021 with Loved By You, a collaboration with Canadian pop star Justin Bieber. He followed up with his first solo appearance in 2022 through the global hit Last Last, which climbed as high as number 44.
Beyond the United States, Burna Boy has also cemented his influence in other major music markets. He currently holds the record for the most entries by an African artiste on the UK Singles Chart, with 26 songs, and on the Canadian Hot 100, where he has charted 11 songs.
With these achievements, Burna Boy continues to establish himself as one of Africa’s most successful and internationally recognized music exports, setting new benchmarks for the continent’s presence in global entertainment.
