President Bola Ahmed Tinubu welcomed Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the Aso Rock Presidential Villa in Abuja on Sunday.
The visit marked a significant step in strengthening the longstanding relationship between Nigeria and India.
Modi, who arrived in Abuja on Saturday evening, was officially received at the Forecourt of the Presidential Villa around 10:20 a.m. on Sunday.
His arrival was accompanied by a ceremonial reception that included the Indian national anthem, a Nigerian Guard of Honour inspection, and a 21-gun salute.
After the formalities, President Tinubu accompanied Prime Minister Modi into his office for a closed-door meeting.
Discussions are expected to focus on enhancing bilateral ties, with the signing of several agreements in critical sectors during the restricted session.
The visit also features delegation-level talks and the exchange of Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) aimed at fostering collaboration between the two nations.
“President Tinubu and Prime Minister Modi will further enhance Nigeria-India ties during their bilateral discussions.
Both leaders will exchange signed MOUs to boost collaboration in critical sectors,” a statement from the Presidency confirmed.
This visit is historic, being the first by an Indian prime minister to Nigeria since Dr. Manmohan Singh’s state visit in 2007, which established a strategic partnership between the two countries.
