Police operatives in Ogun State have successfully rescued Mrs. Odumosu, the wife of retired Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, unharmed after neutralizing two kidnappers during a targeted operation.

Mrs. Odumosu was abducted on January 16, 2025, around 9:45 p.m., when four masked gunmen seized her outside her residence in Arepo, Ogun State, and forced her into her Lexus Jeep. The incident prompted an immediate response from the Ogun State Police Command’s anti-kidnapping unit, backed by technical intelligence from Force Headquarters.

ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Force Public Relations Officer, told AIT Live that extensive surveillance was carried out in the creeks surrounding Arepo, which led to actionable intelligence on the kidnappers’ hideout.

On January 23, 2025, at approximately 6:45 a.m., police operatives launched a raid on a swampy creek in Ikorodu, Lagos State, where the kidnappers were allegedly plotting their next attack. The kidnappers opened fire upon sighting the officers, resulting in a gunfight. Two suspects were neutralized, while four others fled, abandoning weapons and ransom money at the scene.

Mrs. Odumosu was safely rescued during the operation and has since been reunited with her family. Authorities confirmed she is undergoing medical evaluation as a precaution.

Recovered items included four AK-47 rifles, three locally made single-barrel rifles, various ammunition, and ₦10 million in ransom money, previously demanded by the kidnappers.

Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun lauded the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Ogunlowo, and his team for their courage and professionalism in handling the operation.

“This operation underscores the dedication and resilience of our officers. The Nigeria Police Force remains committed to combating kidnapping and ensuring the safety of all citizens,” ACP Adejobi stated.
