In a significant development, the Department of State Services (DSS) has released six individuals who were detained in connection with the #EndBadgovernance protests in Nigeria.

Sources confirm that their release occurred last Thursday in Kaduna, following directives from the DSS Director General.

While the six protesters have been freed, three others remain in custody and are being prepared for prosecution due to their involvement in criminal activities during the demonstrations.

Authorities assert that there is substantial evidence against these individuals, justifying the legal actions being pursued.

The DSS emphasizes its commitment to upholding citizens’ rights to peaceful protest while maintaining order and accountability.

The agency is determined to investigate any illegal activities that occurred amid the protests, which took place from August 1 to August 10, 2024, across various Nigerian cities.

These protests aimed to highlight widespread hardships facing citizens, though some segments were marred by violence and criminal behavior.

Many who were released have expressed gratitude towards the DSS for their humane approach during the investigation process.

The agency’s actions reflect a balance between respecting constitutional rights and ensuring that those who exploit these rights for criminal purposes are held accountable.
