The Governor of Bayelsa State, Douye Diri, approved an increase in the minimum wage for state civil servants to N80,000, with the new rate taking effect on November 1, 2024.

The governor also announced an enhanced monthly pension for retirees and the allocation of N7 billion toward reducing outstanding gratuity liabilities.

In a statement released on Saturday in Yenagoa, Chief Press Secretary Daniel Alabrah highlighted that Governor Diri’s decision aims to support workers and retirees amidst rising living costs.

“To address these harsh times and in line with the National Minimum Wage (Amendment Act 2024), the Prosperity Administration of His Excellency Senator Douye Diri has approved the sum of N80,000 as the minimum wage for the state’s workers,” the statement read.

“Governor Diri also approved an increase in the monthly pension for state retirees.

The related consequential adjustments for the various sectors, as agreed with the leadership of Labour in the state, will be implemented,” the statement continued.

Additionally, the governor’s directive includes a N7 billion payment to help alleviate the outstanding gratuity owed to retired civil servants.

Diri expressed his gratitude to Bayelsa’s civil servants for their continued patience and dedication to his administration’s programs and policies.
