The Nigerian Army has called on employers of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members to prioritise their welfare and provide a supportive work environment that fosters maximum productivity.
The appeal was made on Thursday in Katsina by the Commander of the 17 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Brigadier General B.O. Omopariola, who was represented by Lt. Col. A.A. Yamman, during the 2025/2026 NYSC Corps Employers Workshop.
The one-day event, themed “Place of Educational Intelligence in Managing Corps Members at the Workplace for Maximum Productivity,” brought together corps employers and NYSC stakeholders to exchange ideas and enhance the scheme’s operational efficiency.
“Employers must take full responsibility for the welfare, comfort, and social needs of corps members,” Brig. Gen. Omopariola stated. “They should be treated as our own children and given the right environment to enhance their skills and capacities.”
Delivering the keynote address on behalf of the NYSC Director General, Brigadier General O.O. Nafiu, Mr. Garba Fagge described the workshop as a crucial platform for strategic communication, experience sharing, and policy clarification between the NYSC and host organisations.
“This gathering allows for the harmonisation of views, clarification of policies, and exchange of experiences,” he said. “Our collaboration with employers is built on mutual understanding and clearly defined roles.”
In his remarks, the NYSC State Coordinator in Katsina, Alhaji Ibrahim Saidu, underscored the importance of regular engagement with stakeholders to ensure a well-informed and effective implementation of the scheme.
The workshop concluded with a collective commitment to improving corps members’ welfare and deepening their positive impact across workplaces nationwide.
