The Ogun State All Progressives Congress (APC) Youth Leaders’ Forum has condemned the brutal murder of Adeleke Adeyinka, a councillorship candidate for Abeokuta South Local Government in the upcoming November 16 local government elections. The forum has called for swift justice and urged security agencies to ensure the killers are brought to book.

Adeyinka, a 40-year-old transport union worker, was killed by suspected cultists on Saturday in the Jide Jones area of Oke Ilewo, Abeokuta. According to reports, the assailants arrived in a tinted vehicle, and one gunman stepped out, shooting Adeyinka at close range. To ensure his death, the assailant also smashed the victim’s head before fleeing with the others.

In a statement issued on Sunday by the Youth Leader of Abeokuta South, Kabir Odedairo, and the Public Relations Officer of the Ogun State Youth Leaders’ Forum, Timothy Odedina, the forum expressed deep sadness and outrage over the killing.

“We strongly condemn this senseless and horrific act, which has left our community shaken and grieving,” the statement read. “The fact that Adeleke was shot and stoned to death by unknown assailants in a tinted car is particularly disturbing and warrants immediate attention from law enforcement agencies.”

The forum praised Adeyinka as a promising young leader and dedicated APC member, noting that he had served as the youth leader of Ward 15 in Abeokuta South and worked tirelessly in the party’s efforts during elections.

The group extended condolences to the deceased’s family, friends, and colleagues, praying for God to grant them the strength to bear the loss.

Confirming the incident, Ogun State Police spokesperson SP Omolola Odutola said the killing occurred around 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, as reported by a concerned citizen. The attackers, believed to be cultists, arrived in an unregistered Toyota Corolla and shot Adeyinka dead before escaping.

Odutola further stated that photos of the crime scene had been taken, and normalcy had been restored to the area. One Adeyinka Adesanya has requested the body for burial, while police efforts to apprehend the suspects are ongoing.
