The Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Hassan Abubakar, extended his condolences to the Zamfara State Government over the tragic airstrike that occurred on January 11, 2025, in the Dangebe community within Maradun Local Government Area.

During his visit to Gusau on Thursday, Air Marshal Abubakar expressed his regret over the incident, assuring that the Nigerian Air Force (NAF), is fully committed to preventing such errors in the future.

He emphasized that the NAF would continue to work closely with the state government to strengthen security efforts in the region.

Meeting with Governor Dauda Lawal, the Air Chief praised the state government’s handling of the situation and reiterated NAF’s dedication to collaborating with local authorities to enhance regional security.

In support of the victims, the Nigerian Air Force has provided financial aid, committed to rebuilding damaged structures, and promised to replace two motorcycles lost during the airstrike.

Air Marshal Abubakar also assured that the NAF has taken steps to ensure such incidents do not occur again, stressing the importance of precision in air operations and the protection of civilian lives.

Governor Dauda Lawal, in his remarks, urged the NAF to consider establishing a permanent base or an Air Force hangar in the state once the Gusau International Airport is completed.

He acknowledged Zamfara’s central role in the ongoing battle against banditry in the Northwest, emphasizing the need for an increased military presence to address the security challenges in the region.

Governor Lawal also pledged his administration’s full support for security agencies in combating insurgency and banditry.

He commended the NAF for its proactive measures to assist victims of the January 11 airstrike, including financial assistance, reconstruction of damaged property, and replacement of lost items.

In a significant step toward improving security, Governor Lawal presented the Certificate of Occupancy (C of O) for the establishment of a new Air Force base in Zamfara.

This initiative underscores the state government’s commitment to ongoing collaboration with the NAF and other security agencies.

The creation of an Air Force base in Zamfara is expected to bolster counterinsurgency efforts, enhance rapid response capabilities, and strengthen overall security in the region.
